Electromagnetic Frequencies, Electromagnetic Radiation and Cell Phone

December 22, 2011 0 Comments News by Julia Marino, DCMP, Naturopath

Dr. Klinghardt, medicine's leading Lyme Disease doctor, speaks much on the dangers of electromagnetic fields and how important it is to assess these fields as a Naturopathic Doctor and/or Alternative Doctor.  He believes that heavy metals and pollutants, that accumulate daily and throughout a lifetime, destroy major enzymes that increase the electrical charges that activate our nervous system.  Organs and glands become compromised with the absence of nerve stimulation which makes sense to say that electromagnetic polution may contribute to overall disease progression.

Klinghardt says that ionizing radiation is high on the list and that can be either cosmic radiation or X-rays.  Both can destroy DNA.

All-Natural Disinfectant from Houston's Natural Health Innovations

November 03, 2011 0 Comments News by Julia Marino, DCMP, Naturopath

I recently found a company to put together for me an all-natural disinfectant that is designed for cleaning bathrooms, showers, kitchen drainboards and floors.  It is also designed to fight mold on walls or in air ducts.  It is an excellent respiratory protection and mold killer when used in an air diffuser and can even be sprayed to clear the air.  The disinfectant is something that everyone on a natural detoxification healing program should have.

I feel that anyone following a Naturopathic detoxification program should have a great disinfectant on board, as literature has shown that many viruses, molds, and pathogens are airborne. Those who have lowered immune function have a higher susceptability to contacting these pathogens. This disinfectant was made with  antimicrobial, antifungal, antiviral, antibacterial oils since oils work best when combined!

Natural Health Innovations, Inc. - The Difference Between "Life" and "Quality of Life"

Our philosophy is that for one to achieve excellent health the physical, mental and spiritual aspects of the whole person must be in homeostasis.  It is at this level that one is able to reach the highest quality of life i.e., at 60 years old feel like 20 years old.  How can this happen?   We believe that the holistic aspect of the whole body as taught in the Scriptures plays a major part in the wellness of a person.  We believe that ALL systems of the body must be assessed to determine the root cause of a health issue.

Fluoride Dangers

February 01, 2011 0 Comments News by Julia Marino, DCMP, Naturopath

Fluoride has long been considered a neurotoxin in the alternative realm and studies have shown it’s toxicity.  A study published in 2003 showed that fluoridated water lowered children’s IQ.  Researchers have not only found that fluoridated water lowered children’s IQ levels, but that topical application is now highly questionable.  Scientists are saying that the fluorapatite ultra-thin layer that is formed on topical application is so thin that it is eliminated by chewing.

Numerous studies have shown that fluoride is a potent neurotoxin and can cause a wide array of severe health problems.  The United States is only one of eight countries in the entire world that fluoridates more than 50% of it’s water.  Acids set the stage for tooth decay, sugar being the main culprit since it sets the stage for bacteria.

The Importance of Probiotics in Reaching and Maintaining Health

October 27, 2010 0 Comments News by Julia Marino, DCMP, Naturopath

I was just reading an article on Probiotics that inspired me to share the importance of probiotics for any healing program.   I test various probiotics to get a clear recommendation as to which particular combination is needed for each individual.  Everyone is different, depending on where they are in their healing journey. Healing programs should never be without probiotics on board.  I recommend a good quantity per day for dysbiosis and disturbed intestinal flora.

Breast Cancer Breakthrough: Broccoli Component Zaps Cells That Fuel Tumor Growth

October 24, 2010 0 Comments News by Julia Marino, DCMP, Naturopath

(NaturalNews) University of Michigan (U-M) Comprehensive Cancer Center scientists say they've found a compound that could help prevent and potentially treat breast cancer. It's not a drug or a new radiation treatment but a natural component of broccoli and broccoli sprouts. And it has the remarkable ability to target cancer stem cells -- the specific cells responsible for fueling the growth of cancerous breast tumors.

The researchers tested the broccoli compound, known as sulforaphane, in animal studies as well as in breast cancer cell cultures in the lab. Their findings, which were recently published in the journal Clinical Cancer Research, showed sulphoraphane not only targeted and killed cancer stem cells, but it also prevented any new malignancies from growing.

What makes this such an extraordinary breakthrough? Current chemotherapies don't do anything to stop cancer stem cells. That's why cancer can recur and spread after chemotherapy. So many researchers have long believed that to control cancer, you have to find a way to eliminate cancer stem cells -- and now it appears sulforaphane does exactly that.

"Sulforaphane has been studied previously for its effects on cancer, but this study shows that its benefit is in inhibiting the breast cancer stem cells. This new insight suggests the potential of sulforaphane or  broccoli extract to prevent or treat cancer by targeting the critical cancer stem cells," study author Duxin Sun, Ph.D., associate professor of pharmaceutical sciences at the U-M College of Pharmacy and a researcher with the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center, said in a statement to the media.

For their study, the U-M researchers first worked with mice with breast cancer. They used several well-documented methods to assess the number of cancer stem cells in the animals' breast tumors. Then the research team injected varying concentrations of sulforaphane extracted from broccoli into the mice.

The results? There was a dramatic decrease in the number of cancer stem cells after treatment with sulforaphane, but there was little effect on the normal cells. What's more, the cancer cells from mice treated with sulforaphane were unable to generate new tumors.

Next, the scientists tested sulforaphane on human breast cancer cell cultures in the lab. Once again, they found the numbers of cancer stem cells plummeted after exposure to the broccoli compound.

"This research suggests a potential new treatment that could be combined with other compounds to target breast cancer stem cells. Developing treatments that effectively target the cancer stem cell population is essential for improving outcomes," study co-author Max S. Wicha, M.D., Distinguished Professor of Oncology and director of the U-M Comprehensive Cancer Center, said in the press statement.

The scientists pointed out that concentrations of sulforaphane used in the study were higher than what can be normally achieved by eating broccoli or broccoli sprouts. However, previous research suggests the body can absorb high enough concentrations of sulforaphane from broccoli extract to impact cancer. Currently, the U-M research team is working to develop a method to extract and preserve sulforaphane. They are also planning a future clinical trial to test sulforaphane both as a prevention and treatment for breast cancer.

NaturalNews has previously reported on additional health benefits of broccoli. For example, broccoli sprouts have been found to potentially play a protective role in the prevention of gastric cancer by reducing colonization of the cancer and ulcer-linked bacteria Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) in the body

Research by University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) scientists also found that sulforaphane in broccoli appears to protect against respiratory inflammation that causes asthma, allergic rhinitis, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other conditions that make it hard to breathe.

Breast Cancer Breakthrough: Watercress Turns Off Signal That Causes Tumors to Develop

October 13, 2010 0 Comments News by Julia Marino, DCMP, Naturopath

(NaturalNews) As a cancerous tumor develops, it quickly outgrows its existing blood supply. So a protein called Hypoxia Inducible Factor (HIF) is released that sends out signals causing surrounding normal tissues to grow new blood vessels into the tumor -- and that provides the cancer with oxygen and nutrients. This plays a critical role in the development and spread of breast and other cancers. But now comes word from University of Southampton researchers in the United Kingdom that they've discovered something which interferes with and actually "turns off" the ability of HIF to function – a natural plant compound dubbed phenylethyl isothiocyanate (PEITC) found in the herb watercress.

"This research takes an important step towards understanding the potential health benefits of this crop since it shows that eating watercress may interfere with a pathway that has already been tightly linked to cancer development," molecular oncologist Professor Packham, who headed the two year study, said in a statement to the media. "Knowing the risk factors for cancer is a key goal and studies on diet are an important part of this."

Working with Barbara Parry, Senior Research Dietician at the Winchester and Andover Breast Unit, Professor Packham performed a study involving a group of breast cancer survivors who underwent a period of fasting. Then the research subjects ate 80g of watercress (about the equivalent of a cereal bowl full of the herb). Next, a series of blood samples were taken over the next 24 hours.

The blood tests revealed significant levels of the plant compound PEITC in the blood of the participants following the watercress meal. But, most importantly, the tests showed that the function of the patients HIF was also measurably affected and "turned off" in the blood cells of the women who had eaten the watercress. The results of this research, which were just published in the British Journal of Nutrition and Biochemical Pharmacology, provide new insight and hope that simply eating watercress regularly may protect against and perhaps help treat cancer.

"This is not a cure for cancer but it may well help to prevent the disease," said Professor Packham. "We carried out this study with a handful of breast cancer survivors but it has the potential to have the same effect with other cancers too."

Scientists Report First Evidence Berries Keep Brains Young, Protect From Memory Loss

August 26, 2010 0 Comments News by Julia Marino, DCMP, Naturopath

(NaturalNews) As NaturalNews has reported over the past several years, researchers have found that berries are loaded with health-protective properties. For example, these super foods appear to fight cancer, heart disease, infections and more. Now, for the first time, there's remarkable evidence that people who eat blueberries, strawberries, and acai berries may protect their brains from the effects of aging, too. A new study, just presented in Boston at the 240th National Meeting of the American Chemical Society (ACS), concluded these berries -- and possibly walnuts -- preserve memory and other mental faculties in a crucial but previously unknown way. They turn on the brain's natural "housekeeper" mechanism. The result? The body cleans up and recycles toxic proteins linked to age-related memory loss, dementia and other mental deterioration.

Shibu Poulose, Ph.D., a scientist with the U. S. Department of Agriculture-Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) Human Nutrition Research Center on Aging in Boston who presented the report, pointed out that earlier studies have suggested that as most people age, there is a decline in the body's ability to protect itself against inflammation which, in turn, causes oxidative damage. Bottom line: inflammation may be the initial trigger behind degenerative brain diseases, heart disease, cancer, and other age-related disorders. "The good news is that natural compounds called polyphenolics found in fruits, vegetables and nuts have an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effect that may protect against age-associated decline," Dr. Poulose said in a statement to the media. Dr. Poulose conducted the groundbreaking nutrition research with James Joseph, Ph.D., who passed away on June 1. Dr. Joseph, who headed the laboratory, was a pioneer in the study of how antioxidants in fruits and nuts prevent age-related cognitive decline.
